Embed your request form
Put your Dave request form on your website so clients can send their contact info, job details, and photos without leaving the page. Submissions go to your Requests inbox in Dave. You don’t need an API integration or a separate form backend.
1. Get your form’s code
In Dave, open Requests → Setup → Embed code → Copy embed code. Or ask the business owner to choose Email setup info and send you the prepared email.
Use the code for that business. You don’t need their Dave password or an API key.
2. Add it to your website
Open the page where clients ask for work, usually the contact or quote page. Add a Custom HTML or Embed block and paste the complete code. Keep the script directly after the iframe, in the same block.
Use the complete code supplied by Dave, including its resize script. Don’t replace it with a plain iframe: the script keeps the full form visible as its height changes.
Your form uses these production URL formats:
- Share link:
https://portal.buildwithdave.com/intake/YOUR_FORM_SLUG - Embedded form:
https://portal.buildwithdave.com/intake/YOUR_FORM_SLUG/embed
YOUR_FORM_SLUG is a placeholder for the business’s form. Use the actual URL in the copied code.
The form fills the width of its container. Its background is transparent, so your website’s background shows through. Edit the form’s questions, text, and button color in Dave; your website’s CSS won’t style the contents of the iframe.
The script adjusts the height as the form changes. Keep it with the iframe so longer questions, photos, and the confirmation message don’t get cut off.
3. Check the result
- Ask the owner to turn on Accepting new requests in Dave.
- Open the website on a phone and a desktop. Check that the form fits and the submit button is reachable.
- Send a clearly marked test request. Check the confirmation message and ask the owner to confirm that the request arrived in Dave.
A request doesn’t automatically create a project or accept a job. The owner reviews it in Dave and decides what happens next.
If something doesn’t work
- The form is unavailable: Copy the code again from Requests → Setup and ask the owner to check that Accepting new requests is turned on.
- The bottom is cut off: Check that the website editor kept and ran the script. Keep it immediately after the iframe, and avoid a fixed height on the surrounding container.
- The website blocks the embed: Its content security policy must allow the form’s origin in
frame-src. If inline scripts are blocked, use the website’s approved script or nonce mechanism. Keep the same resize checks. - Your website plan doesn’t allow custom code: Add a Request a quote button linking to the public form instead. Use the public link without
/embed.
Instructions for coding agents
Use this page as the implementation guide. Ask for the business’s complete embed code from Requests → Setup if it wasn’t provided. Don’t invent a form URL or build a replacement form.
- Find the requested page and use the website’s existing layout.
- Add the supplied iframe and resize behavior. In React or another client-rendered framework, initialize the listener after the iframe mounts; inserting a script string may not execute it. Use an iframe reference instead of
document.currentScriptand remove the listener on unmount. - Preserve the supplied script’s message-source, message-type, and numeric-height checks. Allow
https://portal.buildwithdave.comin the site’sframe-srcpolicy when needed. - Verify phone and desktop layout, height changes, and the submission confirmation. Report what you checked and anything that still needs the owner’s help, such as turning on the form or checking the inbox.
