How online payments work

Online payments let your customer pay from an invoice link by the methods offered to your business, such as card or bank transfer. Dave shows the payment setup available to your account: Dave Payments or Stripe.

From invoice to payment

  1. Set up online payments and confirm that payment acceptance is available.
  2. Enable online payment on the invoice and send it to the correct client.
  3. The client opens the invoice and follows the payment steps.
  4. Check the invoice’s payment history and remaining balance for the confirmed result.

Fees and available methods vary. Use the current options in your payment settings and invoice rather than assuming every business has the same payment methods.

You can still provide offline payment instructions, such as check details, on an invoice. Record an offline payment after you receive it. Successful online payments are recorded automatically; recording them again would duplicate the payment in your records.

A payment being processed and a deposit arriving in your bank account are different stages. See Check payment status.
