Invoice a deposit or a stage of work
Use a Deposit Invoice to request money before the work is billed. Use a Regular Invoice for the work itself. A partial payment is money received against an invoice; it is not a separate kind of invoice.
Request a deposit
- Create an invoice for the project and select Deposit Invoice.
- Enter the deposit amount and check the client, due date, and payment options.
- Preview and send it to the client.
- Check the deposit invoice’s payment status before treating the deposit as received.
Apply a paid deposit
When preparing a regular invoice for the same project, choose Apply a deposit or Review & Apply Deposit if Dave finds one. Review the available amount, choose what to apply, and confirm.
Check Applied Deposit and the resulting Balance Due in the preview. Applying a deposit uses money already received; it does not charge the client again. Do not also record that same deposit as a new payment on the regular invoice.
Bill a stage of the job
Create a regular invoice and add only the work you’re billing now. Pull from Estimate lets you select the estimate version and items. Where Percentage Payment is available, review the project total, previously invoiced amount, and remaining amount before entering the percentage.
If the estimate mixes taxable and non-taxable items, Dave may require line-item mode. Review the final amount and taxes rather than assuming a percentage produces the right bill.
Save a draft if you need to check earlier invoices. Send only after you’ve confirmed that the same work or deposit is not being billed twice.
