Correct, void, or refund an invoice
Start by opening the invoice and checking its status, payments, and remaining balance. A draft correction, a cancelled bill, and a refund have different effects.
Correct a draft
Open the draft, update the client, line items, dates, or payment options, and choose Update Draft or save. Preview it before sending. If you only need another contact at the same client, add that contact rather than changing the project’s client.
Void an invoice
Where available, choose Mark as Void from the invoice actions. Review the confirmation before proceeding. Voiding cancels the invoice and keeps a record; the client will see it as void. This action cannot be undone and is not a refund.
Return money or record a refund
Open the refund action and select the original payment when offered.
- Return money through Dave Payments requests a return to the original payment method and records it in Dave. Review the amount and confirmation. An accepted request may still be processing, so check payment activity before retrying.
- Stripe payments: use the Stripe dashboard to refund the payment. Dave syncs those refunds; do not record the same refund a second time.
- Record a refund: updates Dave only. It does not move money. Use it to record a return made separately, with the correct amount, date, and note.
Use only the options shown for the invoice and your access. If the result cannot be confirmed, check the invoice and payment activity before trying again or contact support.
Close a remaining balance without payment
Resolve remaining balance, when available, applies an adjustment and closes the invoice without recording a payment. Read the amount and reason before confirming. If QuickBooks is connected, follow the notice about updating its balance separately.
